2: How many people live in Germany?
Around 82.7 million people live in Germany.Germany has the biggest population in the European Union. Great Britain and France are in joint second place with about 60 million.
3: What is the biggest city in Germany?
The capital city, Berlin, is Germany's biggest city. The second biggest is Hamburg in North Germany and the third biggest is Munich in South Germany.
4: What is school like in Germany?
Most German kids do not go to school until they are six, and they don't wear uniform! On the first day of school, aged six, their parents give them a large cardboard cone full of sweets and little presents to bring with them. This is called a 'Schultüte'.
5: What sports do German kids play?
German kids do much the same sports as in Northern Ireland...football, basketball, tennis, gymnastics, running, etc. They also play some sports that we rarely play, such as handball (see the German Sport photo album for more information on handball).
6: How many people in Europe speak German?
About 100 million people in Europe speak German as their first language (!). There are many different dialects, such as in Austria. For example, in South Germany and in Austria they say 'Grüß Gott' for 'good morning'. In North Germany they sometimes say 'Moin Moin' for 'good morning'!
7: What does the German countryside look like?
Germany has spectacular mountains like the Alps, and big forests like the Black Forest. It also has islands off the north coast, like Rügen.
8: What is the food like in Germany?Germans have food from all over the world, but some traditional German food includes delicious dark bread (Pumpernickel), sausages and 'Sauerkraut'. Sauerkraut is cooked white cabbage, often with bits of ham in it. Go to the page on German food to learn more.

10: What is the weather like in Germany?
The weather in Germany is a bit like that in Northern Ireland, although it can have warmer summers and colder winters. South Germany has very cold winters. In 2005 some parts of Bavaria reached -44 degrees Celcius!
